Chicago Prize

The Pritzker Traubert Foundation invites you to meet the six Chicago Prize finalist teams from:

Imagine you have $10 million to build something vital in your community. Would you repurpose buildings, reimagine a park, build vibrant affordable housing, revitalize commercial corridors or advance another innovative idea? What would you create for your community?

Addressing systemic poverty, economic exclusion, and inequity is complex and challenging. We are ready to do our part by contributing our resources—passion, experience, and capital—through a process that is fair, open, and transparent to help enable more individuals and communities in Chicago to thrive.

We have launched the Chicago Prize to award $10 million to a single community-led initiative on the South and/or West Side of Chicago that uses physical development and revitalization to create and strengthen civic infrastructure. The winning initiative needs to demonstrate how it will catalyze economic opportunities and improve the well-being of residents.

On December 11, 2019, we hosted an announcement event celebrating the Chicago Prize and community leaders across the city. Featuring remarks from Mayor Lightfoot and a panel of community development experts and leaders, the event highlighted 20 top-ranked ideas: six Finalist teams that will continue to work toward the $10 million Chicago Prize investment and 14 other top-ranked proposals who were acknowledged for the strength of their ideas, team, and plan for their community. Watch Mayor Lightfoot’s remarks and a panel conversation on transformational change in Chicago’s neighborhoods.
