Emergency Medicine Physician, University of Chicago
Thomas Fisher is a board-certified emergency medicine physician at The University of Chicago and the Author of The Emergency: A year of healing and heartbreak in a Chicago ER, one of Time Magazine’s 100 Must Read Books of 2022. For two decades he’s worked to improve healthcare, with experience in government, industry and academia. Thomas delivered the 2011 HHS Action Plan for Reducing Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities as a White House Fellow in the first term of the Obama Administration and help build a Medicaid managed care plan to serve eighty thousand members in Cook County. Thomas used these experiences to create companies at Redesign Health that promise to improve everyone’s healthcare. Along the way Dr. Fisher continues to deliver care in the same South Side Chicago community where he was raised. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College, a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, and a medical degree from The University of Chicago. Thomas was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar, Crain’s Chicago Business 40 under 40, and Fellow of the Aspen Institute’s Health Innovators Fellowship. Now, centering moral leadership, he runs for the Illinois seventh congressional district to deliver universal healthcare, reduce violence and create an economy that ensure everyone thrives.
